Finance Montréal’s FM-FSI Competition For Best Sustainability Report
This annual competition, launched by the FSI in the spring of 2013, aims to promote excellence in sustainable development reporting among Canadian companies. It is conducted in collaboration with university students. The awards for best sustainable development report for each sector are announced during a luncheon-conference.
If you have any questions about the FM-FSI Competition for Best Sustainability Report, contact us.
Description
The FM-FSI Competition for Best Sustainability Report targets sustainability reports of Canadian companies that are part of the S&P/TSX Composite Index. The selection of the best report in each of several specific industry sectors is made by a jury of university students who use a common set of selection criteria, to which they can add customized criteria for their given sector. The students are enrolled at participating Quebec universities, including Concordia, HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, McGill, Sherbrooke, UQAM and Waterloo.
Award and Recognition
The companies that receive the Award for Best Sustainability Report are presented with a commemorative trophy. The winners are announced at a luncheon-conference organized by Finance Montréal and the names of the winning companies are posted on its website.
Steering Committee
The FM-FSI Competition for Best Sustainability Report is governed by a steering committee composed of volunteers from FSI’s network and Finance Montréal.
Jury
For each specific industry sector of the SASB (Sustainability Accounting Standards Board) classification system, a jury composed of bachelor’s or master’s level university students working under the supervision of an associate professor conducts an assessment of the most recently published sustainable development reports of all the companies in the sector that are part of the S&P/TSX Composite Index.
University professors who would like to form a jury with a group of students are invited to contact us at [email protected]
Eligibility Conditions
All companies that are part of the S&P/TSX Composite Index and produce a sustainability report by September 30 are automatically eligible for this competition. There is no formal application process.
Results
Starting with the 2018 edition of the competition, a web platform created by Metrio offers public access to the competition’s sectoral and overall results. Companies whose sustainability report was assessed can also request a secure login to view their results, as well as any commentary by the jury.
